Abstract

The American Obesity Association (AOA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting education, research and community action that can improve the quality of life for people with obesity. The Association proposes to achieve these goals through public education about obesity and its role in causing illness and unnecessary deaths; assistance to professionals in caring for people with obesity; supporting efforts to prevent obesity especially in children; advocacy -- adequate coverage for obesity treatment and prevention, federal regulation and policy to end social, economic and legal discrimination against those who suffer from obesity; and support for research by universities and individual scientist through its fund-raising affiliate, the American Obesity Association Research Foundation.
