The American Society for Deaf Children, formerly the International Association of Parents of the Deaf, provides information about deafness to parents and the general public and refers parents to local contacts, when appropriate. The Association was founded in 1965. It has a resource library and develops position papers. Biennial conventions are held for deaf persons, professionals, and family and friends of deaf people. The Society is a membership organization; it also accepts tax-deductible donations. Speakers are available for meetings, seminars, and conventions.
Publications
The Society publishes and distributes reports, needs assessments, position papers, and pamphlets on deafness and its effect on families of deaf people. There is a fee for some publications.
