Abstract
Health Promotion and Policy Analysis, formerly the American Health Planning Association (AHPA) was created in 1971 to promote the improvement of health care delivery through improved health planning and resource development. The AHPA's objectives include promoting within the health care industry changes needed to make the health care system more rational, responsive, and cost-efficient for consumers, providers, industry, labor, and third-party payers; fostering improved communication among health planners and between health planners and the public; promoting and sponsoring research, training, and continuing education activities; and ensuring that national health policy is responsive to the needs, goals, and priorities identified in State and local health plans. The AHPA conducts a variety of seminars and forums, produces reports resulting from the analysis of data on the performance of health planning agencies, and provides liability service insurance to planning agencies and business coalitions.
