Abstract

The March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation was established in 1938. Its mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. The mission is carried out through research, community services, education and advocacy. The March of Dimes public health education materials are targeted to students, school personnel, parents, health professionals, adults of childbearing age, pregnant women and people in the workplace, to give them information about and help them understand perinatal health, birth defects and related newborn health problems. The March of Dimes has 52 chapters geographically placed throughout the United States. The Pregnancy and Newborn Health Education Center provides information and referral on pregnancy, pre-pregnancy, birth defects, genetics, drugs and environmental hazards during pregnancy and related topics. A Health Information Specialist can be contacted between 9AM and 8PM (EST), Monday-Friday. Requests for information can also be directed to your local chapter. The Foundation also operates a "Fulfillment Center" for selected bulk orders.
