Argonne's Community and Environment
Community Leaders Round Table – Leaders of public and private
community organizations, including local government officials, meet quarterly
for an informal update on Argonne activities that affect the surrounding
communities.
Newsletter – Update is Argonne's
community newsletter, Issued periodically, it contains brief articles
about people, discoveries and developments at Argonne. Initiated in October,
2003, the publication is mailed to about 50,000 households in the communities
surrounding the laboratory.
Environmental Protection and Stewardship – A number of Argonne
programs care for the environment by continually monitoring and measuring
environmental contaminant on site and by conscientiously tracking, collecting
and properly disposing of the small amounts of chemical and radioactive
wastes that Argonne research generates.
Environmental Research – Argonne has
been involved in providing solutions to environmental problems since
its earliest days.
Arts
at Argonne – Arts at Argonne presents an annual
Chamber Music Series, music performances by professional artists, art
and photography exhibits, and other events as appropriate. All events
are open to the public.
Tours – Each year, Argonne
conducts dozens of scheduled tours of its grounds and scientific facilities.

groups with speakers on a variety of topics related to Argonne activities.

Argonne Combined Appeal – The Argonne Combined
Appeal is Argonne annual campaign to benefit healthcare and service agencies
in Chicago and northern Illinois. The campaign, which extends through
the month of October, gives employees the opportunity to donate a day's
pay to one or more of 21 agencies.
