Reminder for U.S. Citizens:
REGISTER AND VOTE IN NOVEMBER ELECTIONS
The U.S. Embassy is prepared to assist its
citizens in El Salvador register to vote in the November
general elections in the United States. U.S. citizens should
come to the American Citizens Services (ACS) unit of the
Embassy between 8:00 and 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday
to obtain a registration and absentee ballot request form.
Embassy staff will assist citizens fill out the postage-paid
form and mail it to the appropriate U.S. election officials.
To be assured of being eligible to vote in the November
general elections, U.S. citizens should mail the registration/absentee
ballot request form before September 22. State election
officials
will mail absentee ballots directly to registered citizens. If registered U.S. citizens have not received an absentee
ballot from state election officials by October 2, they
should come to the Embassy to request a Federal Write-In
Absentee
Ballot. This back-up ballot allowed U.S. citizens living
overseas to vote for federal officers (President/Vice President,
U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative).
Absentee ballots should be mailed as early as possible
to reach U.S. election officials by state-established
election deadlines. U.S. citizens desiring Embassy assistance
to
mail
absentee ballots should bring the completed ballots and
first-class postage to the ACS unit before October 22.
The Embassy cannot
assure citizens that ballots it receives after October
22 will reach election officials in the United States
in time
to be counted.
