This document contains pointers to IP number registry databases that can be used to locate point of contact information for Internet sites. Please refer to the CERT/CC Tech Tip "Finding Site Contacts" for information on how to use this resource to locate site point of contact information.

The IP number information used to create this resource comes from the Internet Assigned Number Authority (IANA) and their list of assigned IPv4 address space.

The registry databases referenced in this document include:
American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN)
Whois server : whois.arin.net
Web-based query : http://www.arin.net/whois/arinwhois.html
ARIN's database contains information for all IP number ranges, and contains detailed information for IP numbers allocated in North and South America. In cases where the address range is allocated from ARIN to another registry, the ARIN database will refer to the other registry for more specific information.
Some address ranges are reserved by IANA, and should not be in general use on the Internet. Incidents involving IANA reserved address space may be a result of IP address spoofing. Contacting IANA regarding incidents involving IANA reserved address space is usually not productive.
RIPE NCC
Whois server : whois.ripe.net
Web-based query : http://www.ripe.net/db/whois.html
The RIPE NCC database contains information about domain names and IP numbers used in the European community.
IP number ranges allocated to RIPE NCC can be obtained using the following query to the ARIN Whois database:
$ whois -h whois.arin.net ripe.
There may be cases where the RIPE NCC database refers to a more specific information source to obtain contact information.
Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC)
Whois server : whois.apnic.net
Web-based query : http://www.apnic.net/apnic-bin/whois.pl
The APNIC database contains information about IP numbers used in the Asia Pacific region.
IP number ranges allocated to APNIC can be obtained using the following query to the ARIN Whois database:
$ whois -h whois.arin.net apnic.
There may be cases where the APNIC database refers to a more specific information source to obtain contact information.
