President's Welcome
Sandia is involved in a full range of national security research and development projects, and our staff has never been more excited or energized than it is today. "Helping Our Nation Secure a Peaceful and Free World Through Technology" is our core vision, and we are working hard to achieve it.
Here are just a few of the Sandia technologies contributing today to national security technologies that we continue to refine in many cases:
- A decontamination formulation that rapidly neutralizes chemical and biological agents
- The Hound a portable explosives-detection device
- A hand-held MicroChemLab that detects chemical, biotoxin, and pathogen signatures
- A smart, wheeled robot that makes decisions on its own during bomb-disablement and other law-enforcement missions
- The PAN Disrupter a device that disables terrorist-type bombs without detonating them
- A program that assesses water infrastructure vulnerabilities
- Technology for improving the security of dams and power systems
We employ about 8,300 people and manage about $2.2 billion of work a year. We are funded primarily by the U.S. Department of Energy and are managed by the Lockheed Martin Corp. We partner with a variety of other government, industry, and academic institutions to accomplish our work.
The few projects I mentioned above barely begin to tell the Sandia story. We are responsible for designing all of the non-nuclear parts of nuclear weapons and conduct many more science and engineering projects that contribute in various ways to national security. I invite you to explore our website fully and to contact us if you need more information.
Sincerely,
C. Paul Robinson
Director and President
