Data Collection Systems
- National Center for Health Statistics data collection systems
Some NCHS data systems and surveys are ongoing annual systems, while others are conducted periodically. NCHS has two major types of data systems: systems based on populations, containing data collected through personal interviews or examinations; and systems based on records, containing data collected from vital and medical records.

- National Injury Data Technical Assistance Center, Children's Safety Network
The Children's Safety Network provides trends for each state for suicide, motor vehicle, and homicide related deaths among adolescents. Injury incidence and costs are also detailed.
- The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System
The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) provides information
about the prevalence of behaviors practiced by young people that put their
health at risk, including attempted suicide. Developed by CDC in
collaboration with federal, state, and private-sector partners, this
voluntary system includes a national survey and surveys conducted by state
and local education and health agencies.

- Healthy People 2010 Information Access Project
The purpose of this site is to make information and evidence-based strategies related to the Healthy People 2010 objectives easier to find. The National Library of Medicine and the Public Health Foundation staff have worked together to develop pre-formulated search strategies for

- Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report
Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report is a publication of the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention. It includes articles addressing many health
issues, including suicide. Some of these are listed below.

- Downloadable public-use data files
Over 70 public-use data files from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) are available free from the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). The ICPSR , located within the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan, is a membership-based not-for-profit organization serving member colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad. The ICPSR holdings of NCHS studies include data, with electronic documentation, from the National Health Interview Survey, National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, National Hospital Discharge Survey, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, National Nursing Home Survey and Follow-ups, among others. These files can be viewed and/or downloaded for analysis.
- CDC Wonder
An interactive database of morbidity and mortality data. It can be searched
for a variety of CDC reports, guidelines, and public health data, some of which include information related to suicide.
- CDC WISQARSTM
The Web-based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System (WISQARS) is an interactive database system that provides customized reports of injury-related data.
- CDC Recommendations
This searchable database provides guidelines, recommendations, and other
documents approved by the CDC for the prevention and control of injury
and disease. Search by keyword or phrase (e.g., suicide).
- Australian Institute of Family Studies
The searchable "LOIS Database" provides references of published articles on suicide.
- National Youth Violence Prevention Resource Center.
An overview of demographics of youth suicide, risk and protective factors, and prevention. In addition, activities of Federal agencies related to suicide are presented.
- Suicide Prevention Information New Zealand (SPINZ).
The SPINZ database includes information on over 100 suicide prevention activities in New Zealand.
- Australian Clearinghouse for Youth Studies.
Contains comprehensive information about youth suicide prevention which includes databases of abstracts of scholarly journals articles and summaries of newspaper reports.

MEDLINEplus is designed to help you find appropriate, authoritative health
information. To do this, we provide access to information produced by the
National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health.

This site is a gateway to statistics on many topics, collected by a variety of government agencies.
