Maps-on-Demand (MOD) Pricing Policy

The USGS is required by law to recover all costs associated with printing and distribution. The price of MOD products will be established to recover the cost of labor and materials required to deliver the product to the customer. Because on-demand printing produces a map when a request for one is made, the full cost to prepare this map must be recovered at the time of the sale.

Unlike lithographic printing, on-demand printing does not have the economic asset of volume printing (the more you print, the cheaper it is). Each MOD map costs $20.00 (plus a $5.00 handling charge per order); for example, the cost of two items in a single order would be $45.00.

There are no discounts on MOD products. This price will be reevaluated yearly to comply with the mandate to recover costs for printing and distribution.
