* Division of International Epidemiology and Population Studies

The Division of International Epidemiology and Population Studies (EPS) conducts research in the fields of epidemiology and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases.  Primary concentrations include cross-national studies of mortality patterns with special emphasis on influenza-associated disease, vector borne and vaccine preventable diseases. The division develops mathematical models to integrate data from various disciplines, using methodologies that complement and extend classic approaches to epidemiology to elucidate local and national estimates of disease burden and its control.

In addition to research, EPS develops strategic partnerships with the categorical institutes of the NIH and other governmental and non-governmental organizations to advance a common research agenda.  EPS has coordinated FIC joint ventures with NIAID and NIGMS in infectious-disease modeling and has developed an initiative aimed at establishing the utility of modeling in prediction and response to bioweapon agents.
