Special Events ONR on the Road During the next few months, ONR will have an exhibit at the following:
Glow: Living Lights is the first-ever museum exhibition to explore the phenomenon of bioluminescence–an organism's ability to produce its own light. Science Center visitors will explore the world of light-producing terrestrial organisms like fireflies, glow worms, and fungi before traveling on to the mid-ocean, where an estimated 90% of the animals produce light. Here they’ll encounter alien-looking creatures and discover the ways in which they use their abilities to glow to defend themselves and attract prey. Visitors will also see demonstrations of the techniques and equipment used by scientists to study bioluminescence, and then explore the many benefits of this research—from helping to speed the study of cancer-fighting drugs to the detection of anthrax spores in public places. The Office of Naval Research is a sponsor of this traveling exhibition.
This year’s conference will look at: "Visionary, Visible and Vital: Research Administration in Changing Times" For this first-ever Oceans meeting in Asia, the US Marine Technology Society and IEEE organized jointly with "Techno-Ocean", a Japan-based marine convention.
The 4th International Maritime Defense Exposition and Conference brings together the most important countries in the world that lead in naval defense industry matters.
