December 8: A public health consultation on the Warren Township site in Warren, Ohio, has been issued by ATSDR. The agency categorizes the site as an urgent public health hazard.

November 25: A public health assessment on the former Nansemond Ordnance National Priorities List site in Suffolk, Va., has been issued by ATSDR. The agency categorizes the site as no apparent public health hazard and will discuss its findings at a meeting on Dec. 4, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
November 20: Oak Ridge Public Health Assessment in Tennessee
November 20: The Oak Ridge Reservation Health Effects Subcommittee in Oak Ridge, Tenn., will hold a committee meeting from 12:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 2. ATSDR will address the findings of the public health assessment on the Y-12 uranium releases.
November 4: A public health consultation on the Atlantic Station Redevelopment site in Atlanta, Ga., has been issued by ATSDR for public review and comment. The agency categorized the site as no apparent public health hazard and has extended the public comment period through Nov. 30.
November 3: Neodesha Refinery Public Meeting in Kansas
November 3: A public meeting and availability session concerning the Neodesha Refinery site in Neodesha, Kan., will be held on Nov. 13 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. ATSDR representatives will be available to discuss the results of its public health consultation regarding the refinery site.
October 29: Atlantic Station Redevelopment Public Meeting in Georgia
October 29: A public meeting and availability session concerning the Atlantic Station Redevelopment site in Atlanta, Ga., will be held on Oct. 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Input gathered during the meeting will be included in the final public health consultation document.

October 21: The public comment period for the public health assessment for the Carpenter-Snow Creek Mining District site in Neihart, Mont., has been extended to Nov. 7. ATSDR has classified the site as a public health hazard.

September 30: Gulfport, Miss., Residents Invited to Public Availability Session
September 30: ATSDR representatives will meet one-on-one with community members concerned about possible health effects related to the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport, Miss. The public availability session will be held Oct. 7 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Isiah Fredericks Community Center, 3312 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Gulfport.

September 23: North Railroad Avenue Plume Health Assessment in New Mexico
September 23: A final public health assessment on the North Railroad Avenue Plume site in Española, N.M., has been issued by ATSDR for public review on Sept. 23. The agency has categorized the site as no apparent health hazard for current exposures and public health hazard for past exposures.
September 19: Health Assessment for Eastland Woolen Mill Site in Maine
September 19: A public meeting will be held Sept. 25 to discuss the results of ATSDR's public health assessment at the Eastland Woolen Mill site in Corinna, Maine, near Bangor. No apparent public health hazard currently exists at the former woolen mill. However, the site posed a public health hazard in the past.
September 17: Martin County Coal Co. Health Consultation in Inez, Ky.
September 17: A public health consultation on the Martin County Coal Co. site in Inez, Ky., has been issued by ATSDR for public review and comment through Oct. 14. The agency finds that the site presents no apparent health hazard.
September 16: National Asbestos Exposure Review Documents Issued
September 16: ATSDR has released public health consultations and fact sheets for the first five of the National Asbestos Exposure Review's (NAER) 28 Phase One sites. Public health consultations, fact sheets and media announcements relating to the following sites now are available. September 11: In ATSDR's public health consultation issued for the Galena Airport site in Galena, Alaska, the agency did not identify issues that pose an imminent public health threat. The health consultation outlines environmental issues and health concerns that will be evaluated by ATSDR in a future public health assessment (PHA).

September 9: The final public health consultation released by ATSDR on the Speedway #8366 and Jack's Service Center gas stations in Palm City, Fla., classifies the site as an indeterminate public health hazard.

September 5: ATSDR Announces World Trade Center Health Registry
September 5: ATSDR joined the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to launch the WTC Health Registry, a comprehensive survey of those most directly exposed to the events of 9/11. The 20-year registry will track the physical and mental health of participants and will provide a broad picture of the short-term and long-term health effects of 9/11.
September 4: Alliance Landfill Health Consultation in Pennsylvania
September 4: A public health consultation on the Alliance Landfill site near Scranton in Taylor Borough, Pa., has been issued by ATSDR for public review and comment through Oct. 13. On the basis of a lack of data, the agency has categorized the Alliance Landfill as an indeterminate public health hazard.
September 3: Air Sampling Recommended at Pennzoil-Calumet Refinery in Shreveport, La.
September 3: A public health consultation on the Calumet Lubricants/Pennzoil-Quaker State Refinery Site in Shreveport, La., recommends more air sampling for volatile organic compounds (VOCs). ATSDR finds the community's exposure to VOCs is an indeterminate public health hazard. The document is available for public review and comment at local repositories from Sept. 3 through Oct. 6.

August 25: If any exposure to beryllium and depleted uranium occurred at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (IAAAP) in Middletown, Iowa, it was not at levels significant enough to cause a public health hazard, according to a new health consultation released by ATSDR. The document will be available for public comment at local repositories, including the IAAAP Visitor Reception Center, through Oct. 3, 2003.
August 22: Consultation on Colonie site in Albany, N.Y.
August 22: A public health consultation concludes that there is no apparent public health hazard for current exposures at the Colonie site in Albany, N.Y. The document is available for public review and comment from Sept. 2 through Oct. 3.

August 21: A meeting of Oak Ridge Reservation Health Effects Subcommittee (ORRHES) will be held August 26 in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The agenda includes a presentation and discussion on the Health Education Needs Assessment.
August 14: Public Health Assessment on Tanapag Village, Saipan
August 14: ATSDR finds that exposure to PCBs in Tanapag Village in Saipan, which is located in the Northern Marianas Islands, does not present a current, past or future public health hazard. The public health assessment document will be available for public review and comment through Sept. 13, 2003.

August 13: The public has from Aug. 13 through Sept. 12 to comment on a public health assessment of the Fort Wainwright site in Fairbanks, Alaska. ATSDR finds the contaminant substances from post operations present no past, current or apparent future public health hazard.

August 12: Public health assessments are available for the Carpenter-Snow Creek and Barker-Hughesville Mining Sites in Montana. Both sites are classified as public health hazards. The documents will be available for public review and comment at local repositories through Oct. 1.

August 6: ATSDR and the Arkansas Department of Health have issued a public health assessment for review and comment on the Koppers Industries Inc. site in North Little Rock, Ark. The agencies find the site to be no apparent health hazard under present site conditions.

July 25: ATSDR has issued two public health consultations that examine the possibility of adverse health effects from the use of tap water and pesticides in Churchill County, Nev. The documents are available for public review and comment through August 25.

July 21: The final public health assessment on the health effects from the consumption of fish and shellfish in Vieques, Puerto Rico, finds no apparent public health hazard results from normal consumption patterns.

July 17: ATSDR issued a public health assessment for the Lockwood Solvents site in Billings, Mont. that finds certain adverse health effects might have been experienced by residents exposed to contaminated groundwater.

July 16: The Progress Report on the Camp Lejeune, NC water contamination survey has been released. A follow-on study to review the medical records of 103 cases of specific birth defects and childhood cancers and a water modeling study are planned.

June 27: ATSDR exposure investigation finds urgent public health hazard from hydrogen sulfide in Warren Township, Ohio.
June 27: The review and comment period for the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) public health assessment is from June 27 through August 5. ATSDR found that under normal operating conditions INEEL poses no apparent past, current or future public health hazard for the surrounding community. The facility is located near Idaho Falls, Idaho.

May 28: In its final public health assessment of the Libby Asbestos National Priorities List site in Libby, Mont., ATSDR concludes residents were exposed to hazardous levels of asbestos.

May 20: ATSDR will hold a community meeting followed by a public availability session June 25 for the Molycorp Inc. site near Questa, N.M. May 21: Health hazards of asbestos in vermiculite insulation described in new EPA/ATSDR brochure
May 21: ATSDR and the EPA have published an informational brochure about the potential hazards of asbestos-contaminated vermiculite insulation. The brochure provides information on how to identify these products and steps individuals can take to reduce exposure.
May 20: Public Meetings to be Held at Molycorp Site in Questa, N.M.
May 20: ATSDR will hold a community meeting followed by a public availability session June 25 for the Molycorp Inc. site near Questa, N.M. Also, ATSDR staff will be available on June 26 between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to meet with individuals in the community, as requested. Community health concerns submitted during the public comment period, comments submitted to the agency, and any new environmental data will be incorporated into a revised public health assessment. Later this year, after the document is updated, a new public comment period will be established and a second draft of the PHA will be released.
May 13: The final public health assessment for the Edwards Air Force Base NPL site in Southern California finds that no adverse health effects are expected from exposures to arsenic in the water supply system, to chemical warfare materiel in subsurface soil, or to aerial dioxin releases from remediation systems.
May 7: ATSDR and the Oregon Department of Human Services are releasing for public review and comment a public health assessment for the former Taylor Lumber and Treating facility site in Sheridan, Ore. Both agencies conclude the site poses no apparent public health hazard. The public comment period extends through July 17, 2003.

May 5: On-base and off-base residents of the 7400-acre US Naval Engineering Station site in Lakehurst, N.J. are concerned about the contaminant exposure in their neighborhoods.

May 1 : In ATSDR's public health consultation, the agency concludes that there were no exposures to contaminants at levels of health concern for the Martin County Coal Co. site in Inez, Ky. ATSDR categorizes the site as not being an apparent public health hazard. The document evaluates environmental data and addresses community health concerns associated with a coal slurry spill that flooded area streams in 2000. The public comment period for the health consultation lasts through June 9, 2003.

April 29 : At public meetings in Westlake and Lafayette, La., ATSDR is releasing preliminary results of the agency's 2002 Louisiana Dioxin Study of Calcasieu and Lafayette Parishes and its 2001 Follow-Up Investigation. Final results and additional analysis will be presented at public meetings held in the community in summer 2003.

April 2 : ATSDR releases for public comment its public health assessment of the Stauffer Chemical Co. site ATSDR will hold two public availability sessions about the report in Tarpon Springs on April 8. Public health assessment released for Stauffer Chemical site in Tarpon Springs, Fla.
April 2: ATSDR concludes that the Stauffer Chemical Co. site in Tarpon Springs, Fla., currently is not a public health hazard. At this time, no one is being exposed to harmful levels of chemicals from the site. However, in the past the Stauffer site was a public health hazard because of harmful levels of air pollution emissions. Due to harmful levels of arsenic in on-site soil and radium in on-site slag, the Stauffer site could be a future public health hazard if the property is developed for residential use.

March 17 : In its public health assessment for the North Railroad Avenue Plume site in Española, N.M., ATSDR concludes that past exposure to groundwater from two wells (Bond and Jemez) that formerly supplied public water posed a public health hazard to residents of Española, but that there is currently no public health hazard from exposure to the public water supply because these wells are no longer in use. Also, ATSDR concludes that exposure to groundwater from private nondrinking water wells, soil, indoor air, sediment and surface water indicates no apparent public health hazard.
March 14 : ATSDR will hold two public availability sessions on March 20 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Louisville City Hall in Louisville, Miss., to discuss community health concerns related to the American Creosote Works, Inc. site.
March 13 : ATSDR will hold a public availability session on March 18 in Wilmington, N.C. to discuss community health concerns related to the Reasor Chemical Co. site in Castle Hayne, N.C.
March 10 : At the Hill Air Force Base site near Ogden, Utah, ATSDR concludes in a public health assessment (PHA) that exposure to contaminated groundwater, soil, indoor air, surface water, and fruits and vegetables from fuels and chemicals that had spilled or been released to the ground does not pose a health hazard to residents and workers of Hill AFB or surrounding communities. The public may comment on the PHA's findings through April 28.
February 26 : New Hanford project to study cardiovascular and autoimmune disease prevalence
February 26 : ATSDR launched the Hanford Birth Cohort Study, a study to determine the prevalence of autoimmune and cardiovascular disease among people who were born in and who lived in certain parts of Washington State, including the area surrounding the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Hanford, Wash.
February 24 : The New Hanford project to study cardiovascular and autoimmune disease prevalence. will begin the week of Feb. 23 and will focus on people who may have been exposed to radioactive releases from the Hanford site. ATSDR has randomly selected a sample of 2,000 people who were born in Adams, Benton, Franklin, Mason, San Juan and Whatcom counties between 1945 and 1951 and who lived in one of these six counties for at least 12 months.
February 24 : ATSDR releases results of environmental exposure pathway investigations supporting the Churchill County Leukemia Cluster Investigation in Fallon, Nev.
Feb. 24 : Air emissions determined safe at Central Landfill, Johnston, R.I. ATSDR concludes that the levels of volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and hydrogen sulfide at Central Landfill in Johnston, R.I. do not present a health hazard to nearby residents. February 24 : ATSDR and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RI DEM) conducted an exposure investigation in Johnston, R.I., to determine whether air emissions from the Central Landfill present a public health hazard to nearby residents. ATSDR and RI DEM measured levels of air contaminants associated with landfill emissions in residential areas near the landfill. This investigation was conducted from July 2000 through May 2001.
February 13 : ATSDR released its initial public health assessment on the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, Calif. Written comments from the public are requested through April 29, 2003.
February 12 : ATSDR's results of investigations in Fallon, Nev., do not indicate a relationship between environmental exposure pathways and leukemia cases in Churchill County.
February 12 : ATSDR released the public comment version of its public health consultation that reviews childhood lead levels in Anniston, Ala. The evidence indicates that average blood lead levels in children tested were below Alabama and national averages. Some children, however, are being exposed to lead. ATSDR recommends continued blood testing programs and activities by parents and the community to prevent exposure. Written public comments are invited through March 21, 2003.
January 30 : ATSDR released the public comment version of its public health assessment for the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant in Doyline, La. The assessment concluded that potential exposures associated with groundwater, surface soil, surface water/sediment and biota pose no past, current or future public health hazards at the site.
January 28 : ATSDR recently released the public comment version of its public health consultation on air sampling for PCBs around the Solutia Inc. property in Anniston, Ala. Written comments from the public will be accepted by ATSDR until March 21, 2003.
January 24 : The public comment version of ATSDR's public health consultation for the View-Master Factory Supply Well site in Beaverton, Ore., is now available. ATSDR concludes that past exposure to TCE through drinking water from the site's well might have resulted in adverse health effects among former View-Master workers. Written comments from the public will be accepted through Feb. 28, 2003.
January 23 : ATSDR's public comment version of its public health assessment for Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., concludes that burning of plant materials during prescribed burns or wildfires at the site could cause air contaminants that might result in short-term adverse health effects. Public comments will be accepted through Feb. 19, 2003.
January 23 : Residents of south-central Washington State during 1944 through 1951, might be interested in ATSDR's Hanford Community Health Project. The project seeks to provide educational information and materials about potential health risks to individuals who were exposed as young children to past releases of radioactive iodine (I-131) from the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.
January 22 : A new fact sheet from ATSDR updates the Neodesha, Kansas community about its investigation into lead and other contaminants at the Former Amoco Refinery site.ATSDR is looking into potential exposure routes, such as air, soil and groundwater and has met with area residents to hear their health concerns. The results of ATSDR's evaluation will be provided in a written public health consultation.
January 22 : ATSDR's initial public health assessment on the Metachem Products LLC site, in New Castle, Delaware, concludes that the site currently poses no apparent public health hazard. The document is now availabe at several local repositories. ATSDR is accepting public comments through January 31, 2003.
January 10 : ATSDR released seven updated toxicological profiles for hazardous substances found at EPA National Priorities List sites. Five other profiles have been updated and are released for public comment through Feb 24. These will be released as final after ATSDR's review of comments received from the public.
January 8 : ATSDR's Voluntary Research Program Works with Industry Groups To Fill Priority Research Needs on Hazardous Substances: Recent Computer Modeling Study Predicts No Effects of Methylene Chloride on Human Immune System
January 2 : The final public health assessment for the Tri-County Public Airport (TCPA), in Morris County, Kansas, concludes that persons living near TCPA were exposed to contaminated water from residential wells located off the site, via ingestion, inhalation and/or absorption.
