Does the Ticket to Work legislation provide States with any Federal assistance to improve access to health care for workers with disabilities?
  Question
Does the Ticket to Work legislation provide States with any Federal assistance to improve access to health care for workers with disabilities?
  Answer
Yes. The Ticket to Work and Work Incentive Improvement Act (TWWIIA) provides substantial grant funding to States. The Medicaid Infrastructure Grant program was authorized for $150 million over five years to improve health care services delivery to workers with disabilities. As of 2003, forty-two states were awarded funding under this program.

TWWIIA also establishes the Demonstration to Maintain Independence and Employment, which was authorized for $250 million from fiscal year 2001 through 2006, to provide early delivery of Medicaid benefits to working people with potentially severe disabling conditions. Only the Single State Medicaid Agency is eligible to apply for funding under the Demonstration program. Four States have been awarded funding for this demonstration.

For further details on these grant programs and/or specific State activities, please follow the links on the Ticket to Work home page entitled "Medicaid Infrastructure Grant" and "Demonstration to Maintain Independence and Employment."
