FAQs: Checking Your Application's Status

What applications can I check the status of?
You can check the status of your FAFSA on the Web application, Renewal FAFSA on the Web application, or FAFSA Corrections on the Web by selecting Check status of a submitted FAFSA under the FAFSA Follow-Up section of FAFSA on the Web home page. You can also check the status of a paper FAFSA or Renewal application after it has been processed.

I submitted an application over two weeks ago, but I get the "Application Not Found" page when I check the status online. What should I do?
You can check the status of a FAFSA on the Web, Renewal on the Web, and Corrections on the Web form immediately after filing them. You can check the status of a paper FAFSA or Renewal application after it has completed processing (roughly 3-4 weeks from the date mailed to the processor).

If you are checking the status of an application and receive the "Application Not Found" page try the following:

  • If it was a paper FAFSA or Renewal form be sure to wait 3-4 weeks from the date it was mailed before checking the status.
  • If it was a FAFSA on the Web, Renewal on the Web, or Corrections on the Web form be sure that the Social Security Number and first two letters of your last name that you are entering match what is shown on the Confirmation Page you received at the end of those applications.

If you have further questions, please refer to the Customer Service page for contact and assistance information by selecting this link.

If you do not have a confirmation page for the Web form that you filed or it has been more than 4 weeks since you mailed a paper form, and the customer service personnel are unable to find your application then you will need to re-file the form.

If I don't get my Student Aid Report (SAR) back within two weeks, should I reapply?
No. Before reapplying, check on the status of your application by selecting Check status of a submitted FAFSA under the FAFSA Follow-up section of the FAFSA on the Web home page at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

I have already submitted a FAFSA for this school year. Can I submit another application using FAFSA on the Web?
No. If you have already submitted either a paper FAFSA, a FAFSA on the Web, or if your school submitted an application for you, do not submit another application.

Select "Check status of a submitted FAFSA" under the "FAFSA Follow-up" section of the FAFSA on the Web home page at www.fafsa.ed.gov to determine the status of your application.
