Inauguration Day 2001

Inauguration Day falls on Saturday, January 20, 2001. Since the law on "in lieu of" holidays does not apply to Inauguration Day, Federal employees in the DC area who do not work on Saturday will receive no Inauguration Day holiday in 2001. (DC area employees are those who are employed in the District of Columbia, Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties in Maryland, Arlington and Fairfax Counties in Virginia, and the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church in Virginia.) DC area employees who perform part of their basic work schedule (not overtime) on January 20, 2001, are entitled to a holiday. Employees who are designated by their agencies as "emergency" employees and who are required to work during holiday hours will receive holiday premium pay.
