Atlantic Fellowships in Public Policy :

The British Council is please to announce the competition for Atlantic Fellowships in Public Policy for the program year 2001. Atlantic Fellowships are offered for research and practical experience in any field of public policy. Successful candidates will be based at a host institution in the United Kingdom and paired with a leading policy expert who will serve as their mentor. Fellows are required to begin their tenure on an appointed date in late August 2001. Duration of tenure is from six to ten months. The fellowship award includes monthly living allowance, travel to and from the U.K., institutional fees, family allowances, U.K. travel allowances, setting-up allowance, and baggage allowance.

Atlantic Fellowships are open to mid-career professionals active in any part of the public, business or philanthropic sectors. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with at least five years experience in their professions. Atlantic Fellowships are not awarded to support basic research or to enable study for an academic degree.

Established by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office in June 1994 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of D-Day and the U.S. contribution to the liberation of Europe, Atlantic Fellowships in Public Policy provide a unique opportunity for outstanding U.S. mid-career professionals to study and gain practical experience in a wide variety of public policy areas in the United Kingdom, as well as a firsthand introduction to the European Union.
