Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Some hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) combine a conventional internal combustion engine (using gasoline, diesel, natural gas, ethanol, or other fuel) with the battery and electric propulsion motor of an electric vehicle. Other hybrids combine a fuel cell with batteries to power electric propulsion motors. Look to "What is Hybrid Electric Vehicle?" for more information describing HEVs.

Three types of testing has been done on HEVs to date, HEVAmerica Baseline Performance Testing, Accelerated Reliability and Fleet Testing, and Pomona Loop Open Road Testing. The test results are listed below:

The HEVAmerica Technical Specifications (PDF 156 KB) were used to define the minimum requirements for a HEV for the baseline performance testing.

The HEVAmerica Test Procedures were followed in testing Hybrid Electric Vehicles during the baseline performance testing.

The Fleet Test and Evaluation Procedure (PDF 827 KB) is used to provide guidance for the establishment of advanced vehicle electric fleets, the collection of operating data from these fleets, and the analysis of this data.
