Before downloading the software review the System Requirements and License Agreements

EFS-ABX (4.6 MB) Version 1.1

EFS-ABX is the Patent Application specification authoring component of the EFS software suite. EFS-ABX is used to author electronic (XML and PDF) versions of specifications. EFS-ABX allows the user to create Patent Specifications in an easy to use Microsoft Word template. Refer to the EFS-ABX User Manual for more information about EFS-ABX.

ABXPDF Writer Download (10 MB downloaded; decompresses to 7 mb on local installation) (22Aug2004)
ABXPDF Writer is used by EFS-ABX to generate the PDF files for the application-body authored by the user. It is mandatory to install ABXPDF Writer along with EFS-ABX tool. VERSION: ABXPDF Writer

ePAVE FEE DTD (28 Sep2004) upgrade now (right click to save to your computer and be sure to select All Files from the Save as Type drop down menu)

New fee amounts. The USPTO is implementing a fee increase effective October 1, 2004.

New users should download ePAVE 5.1e which includes the new fees codes on October 1, 2004.

Current EFS users can simply download the DTD file and copy it to the ePAVE /DEF /DTD_XSL folder on or after 1 October 2004 . See the OG Notice dated August 31, 2004, for more information.

NOTE: To download the following DTD file, you must "right click" the link and choose the "save target as" or "save link target as" option. Please note where you save the file locally.

ePAVE allows the applicant or practitioner to collect and submit Patent application information to the USPTO.

Installing ePAVE 5.1e

Prior to installing ePAVE 5.1e, previous versions of ePAVE software should be removed. Follow the steps listed below to preserve the address book, remove the outdated versions of ePAVE and preserve and address book entries that may already exist.

New users that have never installed ePAVE should skip Step 1, 2, and 4.

Users that do not wish to save the address book or have never used the address book should skip Steps 1 and 4.

Step 1 – Save the address book (this step needs to be complete only if the address book has been previously used)

  • Right click on the “Start” button and then select “Explore”. This will launch a new window to browse all files on the desktop.
  • Go to “C:\Program Files\USPTO\ePAVE\DEF”
  • Right click on the file named “AddressBook.csv” and then select “Copy”
  • Go to the desktop and right click on the desktop and select “Paste”

The Address book is now saved in a safe location for reuse.

Step 2 – Uninstall previous versions of ePAVE

  • Go to the “Control Panel”
  • Select “Add or Remove Programs” and a new window will be launched
  • Select the software program entitled “ePAVE”
  • Select “Remove / Change” this will initialize the removal of the ePAVE 5.1a or previous versions of ePAVE software
  • A message window will open asking “Do you want to remove the selected applications and all of its components?” select “OK”
  • A new window for installation will open; select the radio button “Remove” to uninstall the software and select “Ok”
  • Once the software has been removed select “Finish”

The software has been removed; now the new version of ePAVE can be installed from the download or CD.

Step 3a – Install ePAVE 5.1e from the CD

  • Insert installation CD
  • Open “Setup.htm” file
  • Click “(Please click this link to install ePAVE version 5.1e)” a new window will open
  • Select “Open” then the InstallShield Wizard will open
  • Follow the InstallShield instructions for installing ePAVE 5.1e
  • After selecting “Finish”.

Installation will be completeInstallation of ePAVE is complete. Now go to Step 4 to insert the address book. If this is the first time ePAVE is being installed or no address book was saved please go to Step 5.

Step 3b – Install ePAVE 5.1e from the Download

  • Go to the ePAVE 5.1e Download page
  • Review Licensing agreement
  • Select link to download ePAVE, a new window will open
  • Select “Save”, and define the path for the file to be saved locally. Once the software is saved locally the window will remain open.
  • Select “Open Folder” then a new window will be launched displaying all the files that were saved to the local directory
  • Double click on the file with the “.exe” file extension to launch InstallShield Wizard
  • Follow steps in installation wizard
  • After selecting “Finish”, Installation will be complete

Installation of ePAVE is complete. Now go to Step 4 to insert the address book. If this is the first time ePAVE is being installed or no address book was saved please go to Step 5.

Step 4 – Reusing the Address Book

  • Go to desktop and right click on the file named “AddressBook.csv” and then select “Copy”
  • Right click on the “Start” button and then select “Explore”. This will launch a new window to browse all files on the desktop.
  • Go to “C:\Program Files\USPTO\ePAVE\DEF”
  • In the right pane of the window right click and select “Paste”

The address book is now available in ePAVE 5.1e.

Step 5 – Restart the computer

USPTO Direct 6.0 SP2 (6 MB download) (PAIR.exe; decompresses to 11.8 MB on local installation)  EXPORT RESTRICTIONS APPLY

This is the software is used to create the digital certificate needed to send secure submissions to the USPTO. It should not be downloaded until completing the registration process. VERSION: USPTO Direct 6.0
