  1. Where do I find statistical information ?
    The Office of Statistical and Economic Analysis assists in developing MARAD’s strategic and performance plans, conducts studies and evaluations of MARAD programs, supports the Administrator’s negotiation of multilateral and bilateral maritime agreements, and conducts statistical and economic analyses of the shipping industry. http://www.marad.dot.gov/MARAD_statistics/index.html

  3. Where can I obtain drawings of a ship.
    The Maritime Administration established the National Maritime Resource and Education Center (NMREC) in April 1994 to assist the U.S. shipbuilding, ship repair, owner/operators and marine suppliers in improving their international competitiveness. http://www.marad.dot.gov/nmrec/index.html
     
  4. Who do I complain to about a cruise I was on?
    The FMC has limited jurisdiction over cruise vessels and operators. Primarily, the Commission ensures that cruise line operators who are embarking passengers from a United States port have evidence of financial responsibility to indemnify passengers in the event of nonperformance or casualty. Passengers are not covered by the Commission's financial responsibility program if they did not embark from a United States Port.   9. I am a mariner am I entitled to any benefits?
    On January 19, 1988, the Secretary of the Air Force, Edward C. Aldridge, Jr., determined that the service of the "American Merchant Marine in Oceangoing Service during the Period of Armed Conflict, December 7, 1941, to August 15, 1945," shall be considered "active duty" under the provisions of Public Law 95-202 for the purposes of laws administered by the Veterans Administration. Although technically not part of the United States Merchant Marine, Civil Service vessels in ocean going service or foreign waters are also included as part of this approved group.

    To strengthen the U.S. maritime transportation system - including infrastructure, industry and labor - to meet the economic and security needs of the Nation. MARAD programs promote the development and maintenance of an adequate, well-balanced United States merchant marine, sufficient to carry the Nation’s domestic waterborne commerce and a substantial portion of its waterborne foreign commerce, and capable of service as a naval and military auxiliary in time of war or national emergency. MARAD also seeks to ensure that the United States maintains adequate shipbuilding and repair services, efficient ports, effective intermodal water and land transportation systems, and reserve shipping capacity for use in time of national emergency. http://www.marad.dot.gov/mission.htm
