D AILY S POTLIGHT ON:
The Corn Belt
-- Cold air is overspreading western parts of the region. Meanwhile in the eastern Corn Belt, widespread showers are slowing harvest activities but aiding newly planted winter wheat.

Outlook -- A developing storm system over the eastern Corn Belt will slowly move northward, generating showery, windy conditions across the Great Lakes and Northeastern States into the weekend. Cool weather will briefly overspread areas east of the Rockies, but by early next week warmth will return to the South, Midwest, and East. Meanwhile, a disturbance over the eastern Pacific Ocean will move eastward, generating scattered showers in southern California during the weekend and across parts of the South and East early next week. Farther north, a series of storm systems will result in increasingly unsettled weather across northern California, the Northwest, and eventually the Plains and the remainder of the West.
