Non-Profit Organizations

  • National Heart Foundation, a program of The American Health Assistance Foundation, has launched a website dedicated to Heart Disease and Stroke. (www.ahaf.org/hrtstrok/about/hsabout.htm). The goal is to help support research and to educate the public about these diseases and includes sections such as "About Heart Disease and Stroke," "Ask an Expert," "Publications" and more.

  • The National Kidney Foundation, Inc. is a voluntary health organization that seeks to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases. The foundation also works to improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases and increase the availability of all organs for transplantation.   • Allies Against Asthma is a national program to promote asthma management for at-risk children and adolescents. With funding from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and located at the School of Public Health in the University of Michigan, the program supports community-based coalitions that provide programs that enhance the quality of life for children with asthma. In addition, the website includes the Asthma Resource Bank, a free online database of information about publications, curriculum resources, videos, CDs, websites, multilingual materials, assessment tools and more.

  • The American Lung Association's website features a section on Tobacco Control and targeted populations. The site gives publications such as "Smoking and Lung Disease In Minority Groups," and tobacco fact sheets for African Americans, American Indians/Native Alaskans, Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders and Hispanics.

  • Huntsman Cancer Institute focuses on Native Americans and Cancer. Includes Native American Outreach initiative.

  • The Washington, D.C Area Geriatric Education Center Consortium (WAGECC) is a collaboration of institutions concerned with improving the health of older persons living in the greater Washington, D.C. regional area. The WAGECC service area includes Washington D.C., the State of Maryland, and Northern Virginia and embraces both urban and rural settings where more than one million older adults reside.

  • "A leader in its field for over 50 years, The Kidney & Urology Foundation of America is dedicated to helping the more than 70 million Americans who suffer from kidney, urologic, and related diseases, and to fostering ground-breaking research into new and better treatments."

  • Pancreatica.org The purpose of this site is to serve as a worldwide focal and gathering point on the Internet for the latest news and disinterested information in regard to clinical trials and other responsible medical care in the treatment of pancreatic cancer. Additionally, their aim is to present impartial knowledge about pancreatic cancer where interested parties can sort through a large amount of information efficiently in order to give a sense of the range of existing treatment options, to aid patient/doctor partnerships, and thus to help optimize personal treatment strategies.

  • Journal of the American Medical Women's Association The JAMWA is a quarterly, peer-reviewed journal on women's health with a Health Link Library, that includes over 300 hundred organizations and more than 1,000 links relevant to women’s health.

  • IMPACT: The mission of IMPACT: Improving Access, Counseling and Treatment for Californians with Prostate Cancer is to provide high quality prostate cancer treatment and related medical care for indigent Californians who are uninsured or underinsured.

  • The Public Health Foundation is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to achieving healthy communities through research, training, and technical assistance. Building on 30 years of experience, PHF assists health agencies and other community health system organizations by providing objective information in areas such as health improvement planning, understanding and using data, and improving performance.

  • National Network for Immunization Information. The mission of the National Network for Immunization Information (NNii) is to provide the public, health professionals, policy makers, and the media with up-to-date, scientifically valid information related to immunization to help them understand the issues and to make informed decisions.

  • The Minority Health Professions Foundation (MHPF) is a nonprofit educational, scientific and charitable 501(c)(3) organization that provides support for professional education, research and community service that promote optimum health among poor and minority people.

  • The Glaucoma Foundation funds critical research to find new treatments and cures for glaucoma, raises public awareness concerning the necessity of routine eye examinations and provides patient education and support for the management of the disease.

  • Link Research Organization matches university-based researchers to organizations with unmet research needs.

  • National Dental Association is the premier dental organization for ethnic minorities dedicated to elevating the health status of the underserved by serving as advocates in the legislative arena and private sector in order to increase their access to care.

  • National Medical Association is the collective voice of African American physicians and a leading force for the elimination of disparities in health.
