The Office of Population Affairs (OPA), DHHS, is pleased to announce the availability of a new publication, Healthy People 2010 -- Reproductive Health. This document is a companion piece to Healthy People 2010 and compiles the background information and tracking methods for the 72 objectives related to reproductive health. The topic of reproductive health is covered in 12 of the original 28 focus areas in HP 2010. Because this area of health care and related educational program incorporates a wide range of services, many of the other 16 focus areas and objectives are indirectly influenced (for example, disability, heart disease and stroke, mental health and tobacco use).
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) characterizes Family Planning as one of the "Ten Great Public Health Achievements" of the 20th century because of its opportunity for prevention and the impact on morbidity and mortality. Healthy People 2010--Reproductive Health will be a valuable asset to all family planning and other reproductive health professionals as they plan for the future healthcare needs of the nation.
The document was produced with support from a State Family Planning Administrators (SFPA) Project grant through the Center for Health Training, Seattle, Washington and is available here for immediate download. Additional hardcopy versions of this publication may be ordered through the OPA Clearinghouse at 866-640-7827.
