Lesson #1: The Sky is Falling?
This activity is designed to serve as a way for students to interact with the latest real-time ozone data on the web. The lesson will access data from the TOMS webpage (Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer; a satellite instrument used to measure ozone levels) to study real-time local and global ozone amounts, and variations. Lesson #2: The Missing Link
This lesson uses with the web to show students how a scientist takes data from a TOMS instrument to see if it is reasonable. Scientists use a variety of instruments in order to measure an item of their interest. Validation of the data is almost as important as the data itself. Lesson #3: Going in Circles
Satellites are very useful instruments in space. Although scientists use satellites for a wide variety of studies in space, students need to understand that they have many other uses, too. This lesson will provide students with an idea of the number of satellites in space and how they orbit, as well as the usefulness of satellites and how a student will be able to observe them at night.
