Historic Light Stations

Information & Photography

(Listed by state)

Please Note:

This list is an expanded version of the National Park Service's Inventory of Historic Light Stations.  That list only included stations that were once kept by a resident keeper and where a historic tower survives intact.  We have incorporated all of the National Park Service's Inventory and also included every light station on file with the Coast Guard Historian's office.  We would like to thank Ms. Candace Clifford of the National Maritime Initiative and author of the Inventory of Historic Light Stations for her permission to utilize the Inventory

The photos were taken from the files of the U.S. Coast Guard Historians' Office.  They were compiled and scanned by Mr. Joseph Kiebish, and we wish to acknowledge his generous assistance and thank him for his service as a volunteer.   Additional information as well as the history for each lighthouse is provided courtesy of volunteers from the Chesapeake Chapter of the U.S. Lighthouse Society, in particular Diane Hackney and Matthew B. Jenkins, and we gratefully acknowledge their efforts as well!
