White House Sends Four Ambassadorial Nominations to Senate
Nominations for Afghanistan, Peru, OAS and United Nations

The White House announced October 17 that it had sent the following nominations to the Senate for confirmation:

Timothy John Dunn, of Illinois, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Counselor, for the rank of Ambassador during his tenure of service as Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the Organization of American States.

Stuart W. Holliday, of Texas, to be Alternate Representative of the United States of America for Special Political Affairs in the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador.

Zalmay Khalizad, of Maryland, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Transitional Islamic State of Afghanistan.

James Curtis Struble, of California, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Peru.

Earlier October 17, the White House announced that President Bush had chosen Holliday for the UN position.

October 17, 2003

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one individual to serve in his administration:

The President intends to nominate Stuart Holliday, of Texas, to be Alternate Representative of the United States of America for Special Political Affairs in the United Nations (with the rank of Ambassador).

Mr. Holliday currently serves as Coordinator in the Bureau of International Information Programs at the Department of State. He previously served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs.

Prior to joining the State Department, Mr. Holliday served at the White House as Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director for Presidential Personnel.

Earlier in his career, he served as Assistant Director in the Governor's Policy Office, in Austin, Texas, and as the Executive Director of the Dallas Council on World Affairs.

Mr. Holliday is a former Naval Intelligence Officer and is the recipient of the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Naval Achievement Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He is a graduate of Georgetown University; he earned a master's degree from the London School of Economics and participated in the Executive Management Program at Southern Methodist University's School of Business.
