Selected AHRQ Documents Are Available Through InstantFAX

The Agency for Health Care Research and Quality operates InstantFAX, an automated fax retrieval system. Users can obtain a list of the fax items available by following the steps listed in the box below.

To access this 24-hour fax-on-demand service, all the user needs is a fax machine with a telephone handset. AHRQ's fax service, operating 7 days a week, is free except for the telephone call from the user's fax to the InstantFAX computer in Rockville, MD.

The system can process four calls simultaneously. Users, please redial if the phone is busy. Your comments concerning AHRQ InstantFAX are welcome; please send them to the address below.

How to use AHRQ InstantFAX

To obtain a current contents list:

  1. Pick up the telephone receiver on your fax machine and dial (301) 594-2800. Note: All information is entered on your fax machine's telephone handset.
  2. At the prompt from the AHRQ InstantFAX voice, press 1 on the telephone handset.
  3. Follow the prompts given by the AHRQ InstantFAX voice to complete the transaction.

To order a fax of a publication:

  1. Select the six-digit publication number from the AHRQ InstantFAX contents list.
  2. Pick up the telephone receiver on your fax machine and dial (301) 594-2800.
  3. At the prompt from the AHRQ InstantFAX voice, enter the six-digit publication number, then press the # key. If you make a mistake, press 0 to start over.
  4. To confirm the transaction, the AHRQ InstantFAX voice will repeat the publication number you have selected. Press 1 to verify the selection or 0 to cancel the request.
  5. When the AHRQ InstantFAX voice prompts, press the Start/Copy or Receive button on your fax machine and hang up the telephone.
