Eligibility criteria
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you or your family member must have a military service connected disability, injury or disease and must not have been dishonorably discharged.
Description
VA Disability Compensation is a benefit paid to veterans who incur injuries or diseases while on active duty, and those who have injuries or diseases that are permanently worsened during active military service. The veteran must have been discharged under conditions that were other than dishonorable. Compensation is also paid to certain veterans disabled from VA health care. The benefits are tax-free.

To determine whether you are eligible to receive VA service-connected disability compensation you must first complete a Veteran's Application for Compensation or Pension (VA Form 21-526). VA can send the form if you call 1-800-827-1000.
