Home Health Quality Initiative
The Home Health Quality Initiative (HHQI) began with Phase I, the publication of home health quality measures for eight states in the spring of 2003. On November 3, 2003 Secretary Tommy Thompson announced the new Home Health Compare website on www.medicare.gov. For the first time, home health quality measures are available to consumers to help them choose a home health agency. Home Health Quality Measures are now available for home health agencies nationwide.

As of September 2, 2004, new quality scores are posted on HHC.
Every three months the quality information contained in Home Health Compare is updated. That means that although the categories of care and the eleven measures of quality remain the same as they have been since 2003, home health agency scores for each measure are made more current during the scheduled quarterly updates. At the scheduled quarterly update on September 2, 2004, new performance scores for home health agencies were included in Home Health Compare. The scores now reflect how agencies performed during the period from June 2003 through May 2004. The next scheduled update will take place on December 2, 2004. |
