Philip David Ochs was born December 19, 1940, in El Paso, Texas. He was a white male singer, guitarist, and a song writer, who performed at the band shell in Grant Park, Chicago, Illinois on August 28, 1968. This was during the Democratic National Convention which was being held in Chicago. He was one of the leaders of the Youth International Party. He moved from New York City to the Los Angeles area in late 1968. Philip Ochs took part in several protest movements that were against the Viet Nam War. Philip Ocks committed suicide by hanging himself in his sister's apartment in New York City on April 9, 1976. He was 35 years old.
