FEDERAL LABOR RELATIONS AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES
NATIONAL TRAINING CONFERENCE

The Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA) announced that it will hold a two-day national training conference to provide training on the Federal Labor Service Labor-Management Relations Statute (Statute).

The conference will be held on April 23 and 24, 2001 at the Hilton Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. The conference will feature workshops to train parties on the following areas: rights and obligations under the Statute; FLRA regulations and procedures; alternative dispute resolution techniques; practical approaches to bargaining; and new developments in the Federal labor-management relations program. The conference is designed for agency managers, agency and union representatives in the Federal sector labor-management relations program and persons providing dispute resolution services in the Federal sector.

Announcing the conference, FLRA Chairman Donald S. Wasserman stated, "The conference is an excellent opportunity for the parties and neutrals, including arbitrators and mediators, to receive training on Federal sector labor law and labor relations. We have scheduled over 20 workshops that are geared to all skill levels -- from those who are new to the Statute to the most experienced. The conference will also provide an outstanding forum for discussing issues facing the Federal labor relations community in the 21st century."

The FLRA is an independent agency that administers the labor-management relations program for 1.9 million non-Postal Service Federal employees world-wide, approximately 1.1 million of whom are exclusively represented in 2,200 bargaining units. It is charged with providing leadership in establishing policies and guidance related to Federal sector labor-management relations and with resolving disputes under and ensuring compliance with the Statute.
