Fall ColorsAs of October 8, the Intermountain region’s fall color is past prime in many areas. Colorful exceptions are awaiting your discovery on National Forests in Idaho andUtah.Click on the photos to enlarge. We have built a photo gallery for you to enjoy the many different fall color photos that are taken by Forest Service employees around the Region. IdahoUS Highway 26 in Idaho along the Palisades Reservoir remains colorful, as does Highway 20 between Rexburg and West Yellowstone . Western Idaho - Highway 21 from Boise to Lowman remains colorful. Highway 55 between Banks and Cascade and the back roads connecting the small town of Featherville to Highway 20 continue to be worth a drive. Lower portions of Huntington Canyon Scenic Byway 31 to Fairview and the Scenic Byway 264 from Fairview to Scofield. High elevations of aspen along Highways 89 and 91 from Brigham City to Bear Lake, including the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway are colorful, however the maples have faded and most no longer hold leaves. It is wise to obtain highway and weather information before leaving home and be prepared for winter weather while in the mountains. Many unpaved forest roads are quite slippery when wet, while some clay based roads simply become impassable.
