Assistant Director, American Indian Disability Technical Assistance Center (AIDTAC), The University of Montana Rural Institute - Missoula

The American Indian Disability Technical Assistance Center (AIDTAC), a program of The University of Montana Rural Institute, is currently recruiting for the position of Assistant Director.

Position Description:
The AIDTAC Assistant Director shares with the AIDTAC Director the administrative oversight and coordination for the entire AIDTAC operation including budget development, programs, services, facilities, and development of annual goals. This position works as a key team member of AIDTAC demonstrating interest and concern for the organization's overall success in fulfilling its mission. The position assumes a key role in achieving the educational, programmatic, service and leadership development goals of AIDTAC.

This position formulates policies and procedures that are consistant with the mission of AIDTAC and in congruence with any internal and external policies, regulations, laws and/or procedures. This position also oversees and acts as a liason for all AIDTAC personnel matters including, but not limited to, recruitment, training, evaluation and disciplinary actions. This position will directly supervise the training activities and information dissemination functions of AIDTAC and will provide the overall strategic vision and direction in these areas. This position will act on behalf of the Director in her absence.

Requirements
Requirements for this position include, but are not limited to, the ability to establish and maintain professional cooperative working relationships with Tribal governments, Tribal programs, employers, non-Tribal programs, urban Indian centers, state and Tribal vocational rehabilitation programs, American Indians and Alaska Natives with disabilities, and AIDTAC staff. It also requires the ability to effectively coordinate work and training schedules, and technical assistance requests with, and for, these entities and individuals.

The applicant must have the ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions, maintain an organized, safe work environment, work with little direct supervision, be capable of setting priorities while utilizing good time management practices, and work well both independently and with others. The position requires the ability to prioritize, manage, and delegate multiple tasks, and the ability to communicate effectively in a training mode to employees being supervised. It also requires strong customer service skills such as listening, acknowledging and responding to insure that customer needs are met. The applicant must have basic grant writing skills.

Salary
Annual salary is the lower forty thousands, plus benefits.

How To Apply
Applicants for this position will be expected to give a fifteen minute presentation on one of the five AIDTAC goals as part of their interview.

The Center's five major goals, or work areas, are:

  1. Assist tribal governments, Alaska Native villages, and urban Indian programs in developing and implementing plans that will increase employment opportunities and vocational rehabilitation outcomes for their members and participants with disabilities.

  2. Increase the capacity of tribal and urban Indian programs serving members with disabilities to create employment opportunities for and to facilitate vocational rehabilitation outcomes of American Indians and Alaska Natives with disabilities.

  3. Enhance the capacity of non-tribal, local service agency staff to assist American Indians and Alaska Natives with disabilities to achieve their employment goals by increasing the cultural relevance of their services.

  4. Increase awareness and knowledge of state and national agencies, organizations, and networks about the issues of importance to, and options for, creating employment opportunities for American Indians and Alaska Natives with disabilities.

  5. Organize and facilitate national networks of tribal programs, non-tribal agencies, organizations, and consumers to assist in increasing employment opportunities and vocational rehabilitation outcomes for American Indians and Alaska Natives with disabilities.

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field, and at least five years of managarial experience. A Master's degree is preferred.
