How to Search for a Media Release

Search Options

There are two ways that you can search the Media Releases:

  • Date Range Search, by which you can see what media releases have been published within the last:
    • 3 days
    • 7 days (default)
    • 14 days
    • 30 days
    • 60 days
    • 90 days
  • Keyword Search, by which you can type in a word, set of words or phrase to search for within the media releases.
    • You can specify whether you want to search for:
      • Any Word - a media release is returned by the search if it contains any of the keywords you entered
      • All Words (default) - a media release is returned by the search if it contains every one of the keywords (in any order) you entered
      • Exact Phrase - a media release is returned by the search if it contains every one of the keywords in the exact order you entered
    • You can also specify whether you want to search against:
      • Titles (default) - keyword comparisons are made against the main title and subtitle of each media release
      • Full Text - keyword comparisons are made against the full body text of each media release

In addition, you can specify which types of media releases to search against:

  • Press Releases - news and developments from CMS
  • Fact Sheets - general information on CMS programs and initiatives
  • Testimony - testimony given by CMS officials to members of Congress

Keyword Search Alternatives

The number of matches found by a keyword search is affected by whether you choose to search by Any Word or All Words or Exact Phrase as well as whether you search against the titles or full text of each media release.

For example, a keyword search for payment rates yielded the following results:

Search By Search Against Searching For Any Release With Matches Found
Any Word Titles rates OR payment in the Title/Subtitle 53
All Words Titles rates AND payment in the Title/Subtitle 13
Exact Phrase Titles phrase "payment rates" in the Title/Subtitle 13
Any Word Full Text rates OR payment in the Body Text 270
All Words Full Text rates AND payment in the Body Text 98
Exact Phrase Full Text phrase "payment rates" in the Body Text 54

Search Results

Search results display:

  • the total number of matches found, and
  • the date and title of each media release identified as a match to the search criteria.

Currently, up to 15 media releases are displayed per page of search results. You can navigate between the search results pages by clicking on the "< Previous Page" or "Next Page >" buttons.
