The press mechanic is responsible for preventative maintenance
and repair of all plant printing and photographic equipment required
to optimize performance and production capacity, and reduce and/or
prevent production downtime.
The mechanic provides support to all sections within the printing
plant and have knowledge and skill in a variety of technical disciplines
–- hydraulics, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, welding, metal
fabrication –- and the ability to apply this knowledge in diagnosing
and repairing equipment and machinery malfunctions.
- Three to five years proven on the job experience are required
on equipment normally found in a commercial printing plant facility.
- Thorough understanding of the mechanics of all printing and
photographic equipment, and the ability to interpret information
and wiring schematics in equipment operator's manuals and parts
books.
- Skills to operate and maintain a wide variety of electronic
and electrical and mechanical testing equipment and tools, machine
shop tools and equipment such as: programmable milling machine,
sheer, lathe, brake, press, drill press, welder, variety of
saws, plasma cutter, electronic troubleshooting meters and tools,
surface grinder, and belt grinder.
- Ability to diagnose equipment or machinery malfunction, take
corrective action, often under pressure and tight deadlines.
- Design new electronic or microprocessing circuitry to meet
changing applications or equipment requirements.
All applicants must successfully complete a thorough medical and psychological exam, a polygraph interview and an extensive background investigation. US citizenship is required.
