Description
The National Advisory Council for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NACCAM) is charged with the responsibility of advising, consulting with, and making recommendations to the Director, NCCAM, on matters relating to the research activities and functions of the Center. The role and responsibilities of the council members include secondary review of grant applications in light of NCCAM scientific program priorities and program balance.
The council consists of 18 voting members. Nine of these members are licensed in complementary or alternative medicine and three are from the general public. In addition there are five non-voting ex officio members: the Secretary, DHHS; the Director, NIH; the Director, NCCAM; the Chief Medical Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs; and the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (or other designee). Appointed members serve for up to 4-year terms.
