Corrections

Drug offenders accounted for 20.4% of the State prison population in 2001. Correctional facilities have developed drug programs, such as residential drug treatment, drug education, and transition programs, to try to help drug involved offenders. Approximately 94% of Federal prisons, 56% of State prisons, and 33% of jails provided on-site substance abuse treatment to inmates according to a 1997 survey of correctional facilities.
