KEY TRENDS
  • The 15-percent appreciation of the Canadian dollar against the U.S. dollar in the latter half of 2003 made Canadian manufactured goods more expensive in the U.S. market, and U.S. goods more competitive in Canada.
  • Competition with imports from China continued to erode Canada’s share of the U.S. market for telephone and computer equipment.

  • U.S. exports: Increased by $6.2 billion (4 percent) to $148.7 billion
  • U.S. imports: Increased by $13.5 billion (6 percent) to $224.0 billion
