Sandra Pedroarias was appointed Director of Outreach for the Office of Financial Education (the Office) in April 2004.

In this position, Ms. Pedroarias is responsible for developing and coordinating outreach strategies to communities and media outlets in support of the Office’s mission. The Office’s mission is to promote access to financial education programs so that Americans may obtain practical knowledge and skills that will enable them to make informed financial choices throughout their lives. Ms. Pedroarias also supports the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Education serving as a liaison to the Financial Literacy and Education Commission. The Financial Literacy and Education Commission, established under Title V of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003, works to encourage financial education efforts and improve financial literacy in the country.

Ms. Pedroarias previously served at the Federal Trade Commission as Hispanic Outreach Coordinator in the Office of Consumer and Business Education since January 2002. During that time, she oversaw development of the agency’s Spanish-language consumer education publications, web site and outreach activities. She also served as the agency’s Spanish-language media liaison and spokesperson. Ms. Pedroarias also has previous work experience as a bilingual elementary school teacher in El Monte, California.

Ms. Pedroarias earned her Juris Doctor from The Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. She also earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the California Polytechnic University at Pomona.
