The National Organization for Women, also know as NOW, asked for and was given a permit by the United States Park Police, Washington, D.C. for a demonstration by the organization on May 7, 1969. They were to demonstrate on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House. This group would have less than 100 women demonstrating for equal rights for women. This group was demonstrating in support for "Freedom for Women Week." This group also planned to meet with Congressmen and Representatives of Health, Education and Welfare. This group continued to demonstrate for their cause throughout the late 1960's and into the mid 1970's. This group was originally headquartered in New York City. The group had organizations in almost every state by the mid 1970's.
