The group was incorporated in New York State on January 17, 1944 to "foster Jewish culture, letters and arts." It published the magazine "New Currents" on a monthly basis and followed the Communist Party line. The August 1944, issue of "New Currents" published an article entitled "The Black Book of Nazi Crimes." The article stated that the purpose was to tell the whole truth of the organized murders of Jews in Europe. The organization kept close ties to the Soviet Union.
