Burroughs Wellcome Fund Announces Investigators in Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease Program

Deadline: November 1, 2004

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund is inviting applications for its Investigators in Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease program, which provides an opportunity to bring aggressive, multi-disciplinary approaches to investigating infectious disease.

The goal of the program is to provide new opportunities for accomplished investigators still early in their careers to study pathogenesis, with a focus on the intersection of human and pathogen biology.

The grants are intended to give recipients the freedom and flexibility to pursue new avenues of inquiry and higher-risk research projects that hold potential for advancing significantly the biochemical, pharmacological, immunological, and molecular biological understanding of how infectious agents and the human body interact.

Award Information
The program, now the only BWF award program specifically focused on infectious diseases, will provide $400,000 over a period of five years and up to ten awards this year.

Eligibility
Candidates will generally have an M.D., D.V.M., or Ph.D. degree. Candidates must have an established record of independent research and hold a tenure-track position as an assistant professor or equivalent at a degree-granting institution. Candidates must be nominated by accredited, degree-granting institutions in the U.S. or Canada, and must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. or Canada.

See the BWF Web site at http://bwfund.org/programs/infectious_disease/pathogenesis_main.html for complete program guidelines and application procedures.
