Quotable Quotes . . .
“The new Christmas stamp helps to celebrate this important Christian holiday with good tidings for families, friends and customers, who look forward to the delivery of their holiday mail.”
— USPS Board of Governors member Robert Rider, on the “Madonna and Child” stamp dedication

THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE. Holiday commemorative stamp releases for the 2004 season continue today with a traditional spin on Hanukkah — the dreidel. The stamp image combines type in the background, designed by Greg Berger, and a dreidel photograph by Elise Moore. The Hanukkah stamp dedication will take place at noon (ET) today, during the Postage Stamp Mega Show at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, New York, NY.

The colorful 2004 Kwanzaa stamp will be dedicated at 11 a.m. (CST) Oct. 16 at the DuSable Museum of African American History, Illinois Black Legislature Auditorium, Chicago, IL.

Stamp artist Daniel Minter created the illustration from a linoleum block print and worked in the vibrant colors. “I wanted to incorporate the colors of the pan-African flag — black, red and green, to bring a more festive flavor to the image,” he said.

“Holiday Ornaments” will round out the 2004 holiday stamp repertoire when it is released in November. Check the full selection of holiday stamps at The Postal Store.

MAILING OVERSEAS? It’s not too early to start planning for overseas holiday mailings. With thousands of American troops and civilians stationed around the world, it will be a busy time for international and military parcels and packages. Mailing guideline dates for all types of mail and international locations — along with addressing and packaging tips — are posted under Overseas Holiday Mail Dates at USPS.com.

WORLD WISE DELIVERY. Global Express Guaranteed (GXG) is the Postal Service’s premier, date-certain international delivery service to more than 190 countries and territories. Shipping labels feature both USPS and FedEx logos, with FedEx as the GXG delivery agent. About 7,400 Post Offices offer the co-branded service.
