Video Relay Service
(VRS)
A New Tool for Natural Communication We call it Video Relay Services
(VRS). You'll call it an indispensable tool for your communication
needs. An exciting alternative to traditional TTY relay service, VRS
facilitates natural telephone conversation between ASL and standard
telephone users. A qualified video interpreter sits remotely between
both parties, using a telephone and web camera to help facilitate
the exchange of ideas.
Log in and Connect When making a video relay call,
callers use a web camera to sign to the Video Interpreter (VI).
The interpreter then relays the communication over the phone — in
real-time — to the hearing party. Full-motion video conveys all
facial expressions and body language cues, ensuring nothing's lost
in the translation. VRS is an easy-to-use, seamless solution that
allows for increased communication speed and spontaneous interruption.
There's no typing, no extended delay, and no "GA"s — just hassle-free,
fast communication that flows as freely as natural conversation.
What Equipment Do You Need?
Getting up and running is easier than
you might think. VRS requires:
A computer (PC or Laptop)
A web camera
Special video software
High-speed "non-firewall" Internet access
In come cases, equipment needed for VRS may be available at little
or no cost to you. To learn more about VRS equipment or services,
