Washington Division Participates in National Night Out Events in Washington, D.C.

photo-children enjoying the festivitiesAUG 16--National Night Out is an annual event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watches. Community members rally with law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses and neighborhood organizations at events throughout the District of Columbia. The purpose of National Night Out is to:

- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for and participation in local anticrime programs;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships;
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Two Illegal Aliens Indicted In Cocaine Conspiracy


JUN 17--A federal grand jury indicted two illegal aliens from Mexico as part of a Mexican cocaine distribution conspiracy. Laura Nagel, Special Agent in Charge of DEA’s Washington Division, identified the drug traffickers as Salvador Perez-Perez and Domingo Orduno-Esquer who are charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 50 kilograms or more of cocaine. The indictment alleges that the defendants agreed to receive approximately seventy (70) kilograms of cocaine that had been illegally imported into the United States from Mexico. The estimated street value of the cocaine is $1.4 million.

31 Indicted For Operating A Drug Trafficking
and Money Laundering Enterprise

JUN 18 -- Laura M. Nagel, Special Agent in Charge of DEA’s Washington Division announced today that a federal grand jury indicted Paulette Martin, age 57, of Takoma Park, Maryland, and 30 others for crimes arising from their three and a half year operation of a large drug trafficking and money laundering enterprise in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area.

Two Hundred Pounds of Marijuana
Seized In Norfolk, VA

JUN 18 -- One individual was arrested early yesterday morning in Norfolk, Virginia on a federal complaint charging him with possession with intent to distribute Marijuana. Laura M. Nagel, Special Agent in Charge of DEA’s Washington Division announced that Matt CODER, age 28, of Encinitas, California was arrested early on Tuesday, June 8, in the parking lot of the Chesapeake Municipal Airport after arriving on a chartered Lear 36 private jet from Carlsbad, California. Personnel from the DEA Norfolk Resident Office met the aircraft and were assisted by personnel from the Chesapeake and Norfolk Police Departments.

Salisbury Area Drug Ring Leader
Sentenced to 30 Years

JUN 8 -- Laura M. Nagel, Special Agent in Charge of DEA’s Washington Division announced today that Ronald Seldon, age 29, of Salisbury, Maryland, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz to 30 years in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release arising from his guilty plea on March 29, 2004 to charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine hydrochloride and cocaine base, commonly known as “crack”, and money laundering. Judge Motz also ordered that Seldon forfeit any interest in various homes, businesses, cars, cash, bank accounts, and insurance policies.
