Network Engineer

Work Schedule:Full Time
Salary: $50,000 to $78,000
Location:Washington, DC metropolitan area

Network Engineers perform a broad range of responsibilities in domestic and overseas team environments, working on telecommunication systems that support a 24-hour/7-day-a-week worldwide communications network. They work in a multi-disciplined, diversified, fast-paced and technically challenging environment designing, documenting and configuring simple and complex networking solutions. Network Engineers will work with customers, engineers, project managers and facility personnel in discerning customer telecommunications needs, and then design a solution to meet those needs. Additional duties include performing engineering analyses using system engineering for architectural definition, operations analysis and problem resolution. This work requires keeping abreast of current trends in computer and network technologies and will involve learning and implementing emerging network equipment and architectures. Network Engineers also conduct management and customer briefings that provide high visibility with all levels of Agency personnel and management, fostering an environment in which they can maintain and expand their technical knowledge, while being a significant contributor in meeting the Agency's mission.


Minimum qualifications include a BS in electrical or computer engineering with an emphasis on network technology, along with 3.0 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale and one to two years of experience focused on design, project management and problem resolution for LANs and WANs. Candidates must also have: experience in team/group design efforts and working with people in a customer-service oriented environment; strong interpersonal, organizational and communications skills; good writing, speaking and listening skills; working knowledge of IT industry standards and trends; a self-starter attitude, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously; and MS Office skills. Desired qualifications include: experience with and skills in Ethernets and Ethernet components; ATM, network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP); systems analysis and engineering; Web-based development; hands-on networking; network test equipment; project management; and video conferencing.
