NASA's
White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) is a government-owned, government-operated
aerospace testing facility located in southern New Mexico near Las Cruces.
WSTF is a Directorate-level component of the NASA Johnson Space Center
(JSC) located in Houston, Texas. The majority of WSTF's testing and research
is directly related to JSC and NASA's manned spaceflight programs.
The prime contractor, Honeywell Technology Solutions, Inc. (HTSI) employs
the bulk of contractor personnel. Two other smaller subcontractors are
part of the HTSI contractor team; L & M Technologies, who provide
scientific, computing, and other miscellaneous site support, and Lynx,
Ltd., who provide environmental expertise and management as the site
Environmental Department.
Environmental compliance at WSTF
is composed of two major categories: hazardous
waste management and contamination
assessment activities including soil and groundwater monitoring.
The Environmental Department also provides an on-going regulatory review
of new and proposed requirements at both the State and Federal levels,
and prepares written impact assessments and compliance strategies for
NASA.
