Associate Commissioner for the Administration on Children, Youth and Families


Harry Wilson is an Associate Commissioner for the Administration on Children, Youth and Families. He is charged with leading the Family and Youth Services Bureau. The bureau provides national leadership on youth issues and assistance to help community-based organizations provide effective, comprehensive services for at-risk youth and their families. Annually, the bureau also serves over 75,000 runaway and homeless youth and their families in over 800 programs.

Harry recently led an intergovernmental task force across 10 departments to create the first National Youth Summit to held June 26 - 28 in Washington and concurrently in 10 regions around the nation. Over 4,000 participants joined in to hear Cabinet Secretaries describe a coordinated vision of youth development, promotion and empowerment for the future.

Harry came to government from the private not for profit sector where he was Dean of Students at The Starr Commonwealth Schools. Starr is an internationally recognized program in the youth services field. With over 25 years of experience, Harry has been a leader in field of Positive Youth Development and has served as a program consultant for treatment programs and schools throughout the United States and Europe. He has also worked extensively with urban youth including a faith based, inner city outreach in Jackson, Michigan.
