Federal News

HHS Provides $1.2 Billion to States for Energy Aid

HHS has announced the availability of first quarter LIHEAP funds for FY 2005 under the current continuing resolution (CR). Each State, upon completion of its FY 2005 LIHEAP plan, will receive an allocation based on the state’s full first quarter request for FY 2005. The CR allocations are based on the FY 2004 LIHEAP block grant funding level of $1.789 billion. Tribes and Insular Areas will receive their annual allocations at the FY 2004 level. *more*

Higher Heating Fuel Bills Expected This Winter

This winter, residential space-heating expenditures are projected to increase for all fuel types compared to year-ago levels, according to forecasts released today by the Energy Information Administration in its October Short-Term Energy Outlook and special report, Winter Fuels Outlook: 2004-2005.

Note--Not all attachments to an Information Memorandum (IM) or Action Transmittal (AT) are available electronically. If a particular attachment is needed, please follow these steps::
  • Go to the LIHEAP Grantee Support Center.
  • Click on "Ask a Question."
  • Complete the "Identification" and "Additional Information" sections of the form.
  • Under "Your Question is..." type in the text box the name of the attachment and LIHEAP IM or AT number. Please be sure to include in the box below your name and complete postal address.
  • Click the "Submit Question" button to complete your request.
You should receive a copy of the attachment by postal mail within a week.

Note--Persons who download attachments or try to print attachments from their web browser may encounter attachments with very wide tables of data (20 or more columns). Such attachments are very difficult to format properly which make tables unreadable. As a result these tables must be displayed as very wide (17 inches) landscape pages with a fixed-width font such as Courier.

2004

November 8-10: National Community Action Foundation's Energy Programs Leveraging Conference is to be held at the Renaissance Vinoy Hotel in St. Petersburg, Florida.

November 30: Deadline for all grantees to submit their application/ reports on leveraging activities carried out during the previous fiscal year in order to qualify for a share of the current fiscal year's leveraging incentive grant funds (date established by statute). No exceptions can or will be be granted.

December 31: Deadline for all grantees to report on the obligation of LIHEAP block grant funds and LIHEAP emergency contingency funds, using Form SF-269A. See LIHEAP AT-01-01, dated 10/18/00, for further information.
