ACF NAMES CARLIS V. WILLIAMS AS SOUTHEAST HUB DIRECTOR

The HHS Administration for Children and Families (ACF) announced today that Carlis V. Williams will serve as the new ACF Southeast Regional Hub Director, administering the ACF Regional Office in Atlanta. Ms. Williams recently served as the Executive Assistant to the Governor for Human Services in Indiana.

ACF is responsible for some 60 programs that provide services and assistance to children and families, including the welfare reform program signed into law by President Clinton in 1996. Among the programs Ms. Williams will work with states, local organizations, and tribes on are: Head Start, the model pre-school program; child care; foster care and adoption assistance; child support enforcement; and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), formerly known as Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC).

Prior to this appointment, as Executive Assistant to the Indiana Governor, she was instrumental in the development of many successful programs serving children and families, including expansion of health care through the Indiana Children's Health Insurance Program, support for low-income workers and public recipients through FaithWorks, promoting responsible fathers through Fathers and Families, and Building Bright Beginnings, the Governor's early childhood initiative. Previously, she served as Deputy Director for the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, Division of Family and Children, leading the state's design and implementation of welfare reform. Ms. Williams has bachelor and master degrees from Ball State University.

The Southeast region comprises 8 states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
